Volunteer Program

Volunteerism is an integral part of the Cole Center and as it continues to grow and add programs, the Center relies heavily on its outstanding volunteers. The Cole center supervises a volunteer program that includes consumer run businesses. These take place on the grounds of McLean Hospital and include a gift cart and a weekly auction. Some volunteers are incorporated into the McLean Hospital Volunteer Services and work within the McLean Hospital system. There are a number of volunteer opportunities available through the Cole Center, including working with the Consumer Continuing Education Network (LINK), the Cole to Teen Education Program and the Twice is Nice Gift Cart. Volunteering at the Cole Resource Center offers consumers an opportunity to interact with peers on a professional level and helps build daily office and personal skills that can be useful in other job situations.
Below is a list of current volunteer opportunities:

Volunteer Position

Description of Duties

Raffle Coordinator Solicit items from local businesses to be raffled off monthly. This position requires a commitment to work 11:30 am to 2 pm Monday through Thursday.
Cookbook Coordinator Collect recipes for the Cole Center Cookbook, work with graphic designer and printer. Coordinate sales effort.
Movie Club Organizer Select movies and advertise event. Solicit theaters for complimentary tickets.
Book Cart Manager Select books related to psychiatric illness and recovery, display books, keep inventory and track sales.
Gift Cart Manager Solicit items from local businesses to be sold at the cart. Recruit and manage other volunteers to maintain work coverage for the cart Monday through Thursday, 10 am to 2 pm.
Telephone Marketers Call local residents for new and slightly used items that can be donated and resold at the Cole Center Gift Cart.
